Idea 5: Cluster Pillar Candles in Mixed Heights
Candlelight is the cheapest atmosphere money can buy. Gather pillar candles in three different heights — say 4, 6, and 8 inches — in cream or warm amber, and cluster them on a tray on the coffee table or hearth. The varying heights create that collected-over-time look designers charge for. Use real candles for the scent and flicker, but put LED pillars in the mix for the ones you’ll leave glowing all evening. A bag of unscented pillars at IKEA costs less than $10, and the tray can be any cutting board you already own.
