Idea 20: Line the Hearth with Lanterns and LED Candles
A row of black or bronze metal lanterns in graduated sizes along the hearth (or against the wall if you don’t have a fireplace) creates a gorgeous glow line at night. Fill each with a flickering LED pillar — the good ones now have a realistic wobble flame and a timer. Group three to five lanterns, varying the heights, and leave them on the timer so they light themselves at dusk. Dollar Tree and IKEA both sell simple metal lanterns for under $10; the LED candles are a one-time $12 investment.
