Idea 21: Layer a Patterned Rug Over a Jute Base

Designers’ favorite trick works perfectly for fall: start with an affordable natural jute rug as the base layer, then top it with a smaller patterned rug in warm tones — a vintage-style Persian in rust and navy, or a simple striped kilim. The jute adds organic texture and the top rug adds color and pattern, and the combination looks far more expensive than it is. A 5×8 jute rug runs about $60–80, and you may already own the top layer. Make sure the top rug is at least a foot smaller on each side.
