Idea 8: Lay a Runner to Define the Space

In a galley or one-wall kitchen, a runner rug does something subtle but powerful: it creates a visual “room” with boundaries, which paradoxically makes the space feel intentional rather than leftover. Choose a low-pile, washable runner (Ruggable is the gold standard, but Target’s washable line works too) in a light pattern — small stripes or a faded vintage look. Keep it 2–3 feet wide so it doesn’t crowd the walkway. Washable is non-negotiable in a kitchen; you’ll thank yourself after the first pasta sauce incident.
